Bloomberg Snags A North-of-Boston Operation

Who knew that Newburyport, Mass., would be an attractive financial center?


Bloomberg Radio thinks so. That’s where it’s plunking down $1 million for a Class C AM with an FM translator serving this north-of-Boston community.

It’s the lead deal in RBR+TVBR‘s TRANSACTIONS TODAY for Wednesday, August 2.

With the licensee name Bloomberg Radio Newburyport LLC, the business news network is acquiring WNBP-AM 1450, a Class C facility with 1kw from 1 tower. It’s also getting W291CC, at 106.1 in Newburyport.

The seller is Port Broadcasting. 

A $50,000 deposit has been made to Port by Bloomberg via WashingtonFirst Bank, the escrow agent representing the seller.

The exclusive broker in this deal, representing Port, is Brad Murray of JBM Radio Consulting. 

Serving as Bloomberg’s legal counsel in this transaction is Doc Bodensteiner of Wilkinson Barker Knauer LP.

  • Hog Radio has closed on its $1.15 million acquisition of KBVA-FM 106.5 in Bella Vista, Ark., from Hendren Communicationsled by President Gayla Joy Hendren-McKenzie. Jason James of Patrick Communications served as the exclusive broker in this transaction. KBVA airs an Adult Contemporary format, and boasts a HD2 “Next” format focused on up-and-coming AC acts. The station’s 37kw signal reaches Bentonville, Ark. – home of Walmart – and the Fayetteville, Ark., market.
  • For $85,000, with a $10,000 escrow deposit made to WashingtonFirst Bank, Family Stations is selling KKAA-AM in Aberdeen, S.D., and KQKD-AM in Redfield, S.D., to KKAA LLC. Representing the seller as the exclusive broker in this transaction is Beth Griffin of Griffin Media Brokers.
  • Delmarva Educational Association is selling silent WONA-AM 1540, the former WLEE, in Richmond, Va., to Mobile Radio Partners for $25,000. The buyer is led by President Michael Mazursky.
  • Lakes Media LLC has closed on its purchase of WLKZ-FM in Wolfeboro, N.H.; WZEI-FM in Meredith, N.H.; and WTPL-FM in Hillsboro, N.H.; from Great Eastern Radio LLC. Dick Foreman of Richard A. Foreman & Associates served as the seller’s broker in this transaction.
