4th judge, Ellen DeGeneres delivered, ‘American Idol’ commanded the night

Last night’s AMERICAN IDOL is projected to be its second highest-rated telecast of the season among Adults 18-49 (behind its premiere) and is currently its second highest-rated of the season in Total Viewers (also behind the premiere).


The first AMERICAN IDOL-TUE “Hollywood” telecast with newest judge Ellen DeGeneres delivered a 10.1/26 among Adults 18-49 (with an expectation of growing to at least 10.2 in the finals) and is currently is up +1% (most likely +2% when the finals come in) compared to last year’s first Hollywood telecast among Adults 18-49. 

AMERICAN IDOL also currently shows gains compared to last year’s first Hollywood episode of +8% in Teens (8.0/25 vs. 7.4/22) and +4% in Total Viewers (27.7 vs. 26.6 Mil.)

AMERICAN IDOL showed impressive gains compared to last Tuesday, increasing +12% among Adults 18-49 (10.1/26 vs. 9.0/23), +10% among Adults 18-34 (8.5/24 vs. 7.7/22) and +12% in Total Viewers (27.7 vs. 24.7). Also, AMERICAN IDOL won the 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54, Teens and all key demos. 

In fact, AMERICAN IDOL outperformed the combined 4-net competition in the 8p hour by +10% among Adults 18-49 (10.1 vs. 9.2 for ABC/CBS/NBC/CW), +23% among Adults 18-34 (8.5 vs. 6.9), +95% in Teens (8.0 vs. 4.1) and its closest competitor in Total Viewers (+41%, 27.7 vs. 19.7 Mil for CBS.)

At 9p special preview of PAST LIFE posted a 3.1/8 among Adults 18-49.  PAST LIFE ranked No. 4 in the 9p hour among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 and No. 1 in Teens.

FOX won the night in Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54, Teens and all key demos.  FOX showed a significant advantage over the next highest-rated network of the night with gains of +74% among Adults 18-49 (6.6 vs. 3.8 for CBS),
+115% among Adults 18-34 (5.6 vs. 2.6 for both ABC/CBS), +253% among Teens (5.3 vs. 1.5 for both CBS/NBC) and +6% in Total Viewers (18.4 vs. 17.4 Mil.)
Competition

Following an 8p Lost repeat (1.7/4), week two of ABC’s Lost posted a 4.9/12, down -11% from its two-hour premiere last Tuesday (5.5/14).  The Forgotten delivered a 2.0/6 at 10p.

CBS aired NCIS (4.1/11), NCIS: LA (4.0/10) and The Good Wife (3.1/9).

NBC’s two-hour Biggest Loser 9 (3.5/9) was followed by the series finale of The Jay Leno Show (1.8/5) at 10p.

The CW ran repeats of 90210 (0.4/1) and Melrose Place (0.3/1).
