More broadcasters to the rescue: On Monday, 1/18 during a special radiothon on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Emmis’ 98.7 KISS FM NYC, in partnership with the Salvation Army, raised $76,438.70 towards relief efforts for those affected during the catastrophic earthquake which hit Haiti last week.

The D.L. Hughley Morning Show, featuring D.L. Hughley, Jacque Reid, Steve Wilson and Bob Slade, kicked off the radiothon from 6am-10am.  Listeners were asked to donate any amount to the special line created by the Salvation Army for 98.7 KISS FM and those that donated $98 or more received special song requests and dedications.

Said Jill Strada, 98.7 KISS FM PD: “I can not think of a better way to spend the MLK Day of Service than with our partners from the Salvation Army! The Tri-State came together and raised a significant amount of money in 98.7 KISS-FM’s “Help For Haiti” Radiothon. I am proud of my team, The D.L. Hughley Morning Show and KISS-FM’s Midday Personality Shaila, as well as our partners at the Salvation Army, for making it happen!  98.7 KISS-FM is all about the people and our community!”

“We are extremely grateful to KISS FM for getting out this urgent call to action in such a timely and compelling way,” said Denver Frederick, Director of Development for The Salvation Army Greater New York Division.  “The Salvation Army is working on the ground to help alleviate the terrible suffering of the millions impacted by this disaster.  But just as importantly, the Army, who has had a major presence in Haiti for 60 years, will be there for the next 60 years serving the needs of the Haitian people.”

98.7 KISS FM and the Salvation Army will keep the dedicated phone line, 1-800-654-7987 open for those that still want to donate. For more information on how you can reach out and give back, visit www.987KISSFM.com.
