ABC World News with Diane Sawyer narrows the total viewing and demo gaps with NBC. Marks third consecutive week “World News” Closes Gap Among Adults 25-54 with NBC. “World News” Increases Total Viewing and Demo Advantage Over CBS Week to Week.


For the week of March 29, “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” averaged 7.07 million Total Viewers and a 1.5/7 among Adults 25-54 according to Nielsen Media Research.

Compared to the previous week, “World News” closed the Total Viewing gap with “NBC Nightly News” by 30% (-290,000). This marks the smallest weekly total viewing gap between the two programs since New Year’s week. Additionally, the total viewing gap is 11% smaller (-80,000) year to year.

For the third straight week, “World News” narrowed the demo gap with “Nightly News.” The weekly gap among Adults 25-54 was 5% smaller, marking the smallest weekly demo gap since November 2009.

Compared to the previous week, “World News’” advantage among Adults 25-54 over “CBS Evening News “was 18% larger (+50,000) and its total viewing lead increased by 10% (+180,000).

Last week “World News” covered the scandal at the Vatican with reporting from Brian Ross in New York and Jim Sciutto in Rome. Sharyn Alfonsi investigated the heroin problem among teenagers in the country’s heartland. “World News” also covered the record-shattering rain that hit the east coast.
