ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ gains in May sweeps

“GMA” is Only Morning Show to Gain Total Viewers Week to Week and Year to Year; Only Morning Show to Maintain Total Viewing Audience vs. May 2009 Sweep.


“GMA” Cuts the Total Viewing Gap with NBC by 39% Year to Year and
23% Week to Week; Also Shrinks Demo Gap Week to Week.

“GMA” Extends its Total Viewing Advantage Over CBS Week to Week and Year to Year.
 
For the week of May 24th, ABC’s “Good Morning America” averaged 4.340 million Total Viewers and a 1.3/10 among Adults 25-54. “GMA” was the only morning program to experience Total Viewer growth week to week (+3%) and year to year (+3%), while NBC’s “Today” and CBS’ “Early Show” declined in both categories. 
 
Once again, “GMA” reduced NBC’s “Today” Total Viewing lead, shrinking the gap by -23% week to week and -39% year to year. The Adult 25-54 Demo gap shrank 10% week to week.
 
In addition, “GMA” expanded its Total Viewing advantage (2,020,000) over CBS’ “Early Show” week to week (+27%) and year to year (+25%). ABC’s Adult 25-54 Demo lead (680,000) over CBS was +15% larger vs. the prior week

May Sweep

For the just-completed May Sweep, “GMA” averaged 4.42 million Total Viewers and a 1.4/10 among Adults 25-54. “GMA” was the only program to maintain its Total Viewing audience vs. the May 2009 Sweep, while both “Today” and “Early Show” lost Total Viewers. “GMA” also closed the Total Viewing gap with “Today” by -32% vs. the May 2009 Sweep, while increasing both the Total Viewing and Adult 25-54 Demo gaps with “Early Show,” +26% and +6% respectively.
  
 The Emmy Award-winning morning news program, featuring the anchor team of Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Sam Champion and Juju Chang, airs live Monday through Friday from 7:00-9:00 a.m., ET on the ABC Television Network. Jim Murphy is the senior executive producer and Tom Cibrowski is the executive producer of ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
