‘American Idol’ squeezes out ‘NCIS’ gives Fox win

American Idol down to five contestants left and its seems that Lee DeWyze is the contestant to beat. FOX had the No. 1 and No. 2 programs of the night with AMERICAN IDOL and GLEE as it won the night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  In fact, FOX outperformed its nearest competition for the night by +83% among Adults 18-49 (5.5/15 vs. 3.0/8 for NBC), +113% among Adults 18-34 (4.9/15 vs. 2.3/7 for NBC), +183% among Teens (3.4/12 vs. 1.2/4 for ABC) and +4% in Total Viewers (14.5 vs. 14.0 for CBS).


The Top 5 on AMERICAN IDOL posted a 6.0/18 among Adults 18-49 and dominated its 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  In the 8p hour AMERICAN IDOL showed advantages over its nearest competitors of +94% among Adults 18-49 (6.0/18 vs. 3.1/9 for CBS), +118% among Adults 18-34 (4.8/16 vs. 2.2/7 for NBC), +183% among Teens (3.4/13 vs. 1.2/5 for ABC) and +16% in Total Viewers (17.1 vs. 14.8 Mil for CBS.) So far this season, AMERICAN IDOL’s Most Current ratings vs. the comparable Most Current weeks last year show 92% retention among Adults 18-49 (8.9/23 vs. 9.7/24), 93% among Adults 18-34 (7.4/21 vs. 8.0/22), 94% among Teens (6.1/20 vs. 6.5/21) and 93% in Total Viewers (24.3 vs. 26.2 Mil.)

Week four of GLEE posted a 4.9/13 among Adults 18-49, down -6% from last week (5.2/13).  GLEE won the 9p hour among Adults 18-49, Adults 18-34/25-54, Teens and all key female demos and in head to head competition in the 9p hour, GLEE outperformed its nearest competitors by +26% among Adults 18-49 (4.9/13 vs. 3.9/10 for ABC), +47% among Adults A18-34 (5.0/14 vs. 3.4/10 for ABC) and +143% among Teens (3.4/12 vs. 1.4/5 for ABC and NBC).  GLEE is the highest rated new scripted series of the season among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34. GLEE was also the highest rated program of the night among Adults 18-34 and Teens (tied with American Idol).   So far this spring GLEE has outperformed its prior season originals average (Wed 9p) by +58% among Adults 18-49 (5.2/14 vs. 3.3/9), +50% among Adults 18-34 (5.4/15 vs. 3.6/11), +58% among Teens (3.8/13 vs. 2.4/9) and +74% among Total Viewers (12.7 vs. 7.3 Mil.)

Competition
ABC’s Dancing With The Stars results show (2.4/7) matched its lowest original rating ever (excluding recaps) for the second week, dropping -8% from this installment’s average (2.6/8).  Through last night, Dancing With The Stars’ results shows are down -21% from their comparable spring 09 average (2.6/8 vs. 3.3/8).  Lost (3.9/10), was on the low side, down -11% from its prior average with first-run episodes (4.4/11) while V (2.2/6) was on par.

All of CBS’ dramas fell below their original season averages, with NCIS (3.1/9) delivering its lowest original of the season, down -26% from its average (4.2/12), NCIS: LA (2.8/7) posting its lowest original episode ever, down -22% (3.6/9) and The Good Wife (2.4/7) dropping -14% (2.8/8).

NBC’s The Biggest Loser 9 (3.2/9) and Parenthood (2.6/7) were both on par.

On the CW, 90210 (0.7/2) matched its lowest original ever.  At 9p, Life Unexpected (0.4/1) was a repeat.
