Broadcasters honored the memory of Stu Olds

The Stu Olds Memorial Fund, established to commemorate the former Katz Media Group CEO who passed away last December, has raised more than $450,000 to benefit the mission of the Broadcasters Foundation of America. That word came from the foundation on the eve of what would have been his 61st birthday, April 1st.

Olds was a staunch supporter of the Foundation and served on the Board of Directors as Vice Chairman.  The Memorial Fund was initiated with a $250,000 donation from Clear Channel Communications and a challenge to the industry to match that figure with individual and corporate contributions.

“Broadcasters who knew and worked with Stu wanted a way to pay tribute,” noted Jim Thompson, President of the Broadcasters Foundation. “We are very grateful to Stu’s family for their support of the Memorial Fund as a way to continue his charitable work of helping broadcasters in need.”

Olds had an extraordinary 33-year career, guiding the nation’s largest media representation firm and shaping the current radio industry environment.  He oversaw operations for all Katz Media Group companies, including Katz Radio Group, Clear Channel Radio Sales, Katz Television Group, Katz Marketing Solutions, and Katz 360 Digital Sales.

Olds will be honored with the Lowry Mays Excellence in Broadcasting Award, which will be presented posthumously during the Foundation’s annual breakfast on April 13th during the NAB Show in Las Vegas.

Donations to the Stu Olds Memorial Fund are being accepted at the Broadcasters Foundation website at www.broadcastersfoundation.org, or by calling 212-373-8250, or emailing [email protected].

The Broadcasters Foundation has provided millions of dollars in aid to colleagues who lost their livelihood through a catastrophic event, debilitating disease, or unforeseen family tragedy.
