CBS gets rights to Hollywood Film Awards

CBSCBS has struck a deal with Dick Clark Productions for rights to the Hollywood Film Awards, a relatively new event that has never had television exposure. Created 17 years ago by Carlos de Abreu, the Hollywood Film Awards ceremony doesn’t get nearly the attention of the Oscars or Golden Globes, but it has in recent years managed to draw A-list talent. The event has typically taken place in the fall and is seen as the unofficial starter for awards season. The most recent Hollywood Film Awards were held in October at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, reports The LA Times.

“The Hollywood Film Awards is a star-filled, fun night full of surprises, and the first stop out of the gate kicking off the film awards season,” said Jack Sussman, executive vice president of specials, music and live events for CBS. “Until now, the event was limited to only industry insiders. We’re proud to team up with Dick Clark Productions and Carlos to develop this into an event for television and showcase it to millions of viewers across the country.”

“CBS, which is already home to the Grammy Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards, has not announced an air date for its first telecast of the Hollywood Film Awards,” said the story. “The show’s initial telecast would likely be either late this year or, should the network decide to move the franchise closer to the Globes and Oscars, early next year.”

Dick Clark Productions is also the producer of the Golden Globes.
