Longtime Champaign IL media company D.W.S. Inc. is adding an area FM station to its AM-FM combo, not to mention its newspaper, The News-Gazette. The station is WUIL-FM out of Arcola IL.
The seller is Champaign Partners LLC. According to broker Gene Ferry, who handled the transaction, the price is $1.4M.
D.W.S. owns one of the market’s top stations, News-Talk WDWS-AM, which carries the News-Talk format that dovetails nicely with the company’s newspaper. Its other station is Soft AC WHMS-FM.
Arcola is some distance south of Champaign, but with a transmitter location north of that town, its 60 dBu signal reaches all but the northernmost portions of Champaign’s most populated areas.
