New York’s #1 News Talk station in morning drive, has opening for an Assistant Chief Engineer.  WOR Radio is seeking a dynamic individual to work as part of an overall team effort to take WOR and The WOR Radio Networks to new heights.  Candidate must be able to interact with many departments and personalities. Willing to do what it takes to maintain and enhance WOR’s standing in the New York market. Must be able to handle multiple projects at any given time and able to work under pressure.  This position requires 24/7 on-call status and the candidate should have reliable transportation available.  The position answers to the VP/Corporate Director of Engineering.

Experience: At least 5 years experience in the Broadcast industry, preferably in radio, experience with digital on air automation systems, ENCO preferred; experience with digital console and routing systems, Axia preferred; experience in IT, with the ability to repair computers, networks and related systems; ability to repair both analog and digital systems to the component level, if necessary; Mid to high power AM transmitter experience, directional AM antenna experience, understanding of various STL and remote audio transport systems, including but not limited to 950 MHz STL gear, T1 and IP codecs, understanding of broadcast studio operations.

Requirements: Must hold either an FCC Commercial General Class Radio Telephone license or SBE Certification (or both). Consideration will be given to a candidate who holds an Extra Class Amateur Radio license in lieu of an FCC General or SBE Certification, or who is willing to become SBE certified within 6 months of employment.

Electronics Engineer

Maintains and repairs NPR’s Broadcast technical equipment; designs, constructs, installs and tests NPR’s Broadcast technical equipment, assists the Engineering Technology Supervisor and the Director of Engineering Technology in determining Engineering Service’s purchasing requirements; other duties as assigned.

The Electronics Engineer works as part of a 24 x 7 x 365 team and must be able to respond quickly during non-shift business hours. They must be flexible to work on shifts as assigned by management that may be outside of normal business hours.

Essential Duties Include:
The essential characteristics of this position are to construct, install, test, maintain, repair, and provide technical support for equipment, systems, facilities, and networks under the domain of Engineering Technology, and to maintain the various documentation and databases in support of these activities. Responsibilities also include project planning and installation of technical systems as described by the Supervisor of Engineering Technology.

Education:
Associate’s Degree in electronic engineering, electronics repair or equivalent experience. Society of Broadcast Engineering  level and broadcast networking certification, experience with computer networking, and familiarity with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD LT are all preferred.

Skills:
Excellent organizational and interpersonal communications skills; an ability to use common hand and power tools; ability to utilize test equipment commonly used broadcast related in electronics and network servicing; ability to read schematics and understand signal flow; ability to troubleshoot at the systems level broadcast and audio production-related equipment, computer hardware, and individual equipment to the component level; ability to  maintain engineering drawings, databases, spreadsheets, and other relevant documentation.

Experience:
Minimum of Three (3) years experience of maintenance engineering at a radio or TV station, network-level broadcaster, or production house. Public broadcasting experience preferred.

Must hold a valid driver’s license, with a good driving record.
