ComScore to Bust Out With New Ratings

comScoreLogoWhile we’ve known comScore plans to challenge Nielsen for television audience measurement, now comScore has said more about timing of its new offering.

The word comes just weeks after its acquisition of Rentrak in an all-stock deal the companies said was valued at $732 million. They have said the new product will combine Rentrak’s set-top box data with comScore’s digital measurement.

In an earnings call with analysts Wednesday, comScore CEO Serge Matta said cross-platform ratings are coming soon — as early as April. Monthly ratings will include television, over-the-top services and digital viewing. All cable, telco and satellite operators will be included, according to MediaLife.

The launch is set just before television networks make their upfront presentations to media buyers.

In response, Nielsen stated: “Nielsen has the only total audience measurement, comparable across all screens, available to the market now. All of our data is fully representative of the U.S. population, and we deliver truly independent measurement.”
