The idea at Van Wagner Communications is to get the attention of consumers in surprising and compelling ways – and to that end, is has bought The Lightship Group and related American Blimp Corporation, building on its fleet of fixed-wing aircraft.

According to an article at heraldonline.com, Van Wagner is striving to offer clients multiple non-traditional avenues to reach consumers. This deal will build on the banner-towing airplanes already in its arsenal of options.

The company also provides billboards and sport advertising opportunities.

TLG is said to have provided advertising opportunities in 35 different countries over the past 20 years. It provides advertising, broadcasting and other promotional opportunities via its fleet of airships. It calls them “lightships,” and they are illuminated to provide effective messaging services at night.

Van Wagner believes the airships will mesh well with its sports group, which has deals in place with more than 200 professional and collegiate athletic operations.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
