“Desperate Housewives” Outperforms CBS’ “Undercover Boss” in Viewers and Young Adults by its Widest Margins to Date in Head-to-Head Competition.

At 10pm, “Brothers & Sisters” Beats CBS’ “CSI: Miami” in Adults 18-49 and Across All Key Women Demos

“Desperate Housewives” (9:00-10:00p.m.)
ABC’s “Desperate Housewives” ranked as the top non-sports program in the hour in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 for the 6th week in a row. In head-to-head competition, “Housewives” outperformed CBS’ “Undercover Boss” by its widest margins to date, by 1.5 million viewers (11.8 million vs. 10.3 million) and by 37% in Adults 18-49 (3.7/9 vs. 2.7/6).  In addition, “Desperate Housewives” topped Fox’s animated comedies (“Family Guy”/”American Dad” – 6.2 million & 2.9/7) in the hour by 5.6 million viewers and by 28% in Adults 18-49.

“Brothers & Sisters” (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
ABC’s “Brothers & Sisters” beat CBS’ “CSI: Miami” among Adults 18-49 (2.5/7 vs. 2.4/6).  In addition, “Brothers & Sisters” topped its CBS drama competition by strong margins across each of the key Women demographics: Women 18-34 (+33% – 2.4/7 vs. 1.8/5), Women 18-49 (+37% – 3.7/10 vs. 2.7/7) and Women 25-54 (+22% – 4.5/11 vs. 3.7/9).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 38% currently, from 33% at the same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
