Disney/ABC TV receives 59 Emmy nominations

The Disney/ABC Television Group received 59 nominations for the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards announced live this morning from New York City. “General Hospital” is the most honored show with 18 nominations, including a nod for Outstanding Drama Series. “All My Children” also received a nod in the Outstanding Drama Series category. “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” creator Agnes Nixon will receive the 37th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards Lifetime Achievement Award for her enormous contribution to the genre. “The View” received its 13th nomination in 13 years for Outstanding Talk Show Host, honoring Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd. In August 2009, awards history was made when the co-hosts of “The View” won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host for the first time in the show’s history. “Good Morning America” received its fourth consecutive nomination for Outstanding Morning Program. “GMA” has won the award the past three consecutive years, every year since the category was created.


Disney-ABC Domestic Television received a total of three nominations for “LIVE! with Regis and Kelly,” including the Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment category, as well as Outstanding Talk Show Host for Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, which marks the 19th nomination for both the show and its hosts, plus Outstanding Directing in a Talk Show/Morning Program.

Three-time Emmy winner Sarah Brown was honored with a nomination for her portrayal of Claudia Zacchara Corinthos on “General Hospital,” along with previous Emmy nominee Bobbie Eakes (Krystal Carey on “All My Children”) in the Lead Actress category. “One Life to Live’s” Bree Williamson (Jessica Brennan) received her second consecutive nomination in the Supporting Actress category, along with first-time nominee Carolyn Hennesy (Diane Miller on “General Hospital”). Three-time Emmy winner Jonathan Jackson (Lucky Spencer on “General Hospital”) received a nomination in the Supporting Actor category, along with previous Emmy-nominees Bradford Anderson (Damian Spinelli on “General Hospital”), “All My Children’s” Ricky Paull Goldin (Jake Martin) and “One Life to Live’s” Brian Kerwin (Charlie Banks).

Last year’s winner in the Outstanding Younger Actress category, Julie Berman (Lulu Spencer on “General Hospital”), was once again honored with a nomination in the category. In the Outstanding Younger Actor category, Drew Garrett was honored with a nomination for his portrayal of Michael Corinthos, Jr. on “General Hospital,” along with Scott Clifton who received a nod for his portrayal of Schuyler Joplin on “One Life to Live.”

ABC received four nominations for the “Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade” — Outstanding Special Class Directing, Outstanding Achievement in Live & Direct to Tape Sound, Outstanding Achievement in Multiple Camera Editing and Outstanding Achievement in Technical Direction/Electronic Camera/Video Control.

Disney Channel received five nominations, including  four nominations for “Phineas and Ferb” — Outstanding Writing in Animation, Outstanding Achievement in Music Direction and Composition, Outstanding Original Song – Children’s and Animation and Outstanding Achievement in Sound Editing – Live Action and Animation.  Playhouse Disney’s “Special Agent Oso” received a nomination in the Outstanding Original Song category for Special Agent Oso Main Title.

One of the foremost women of television serial drama, Agnes Nixon is a rare personality in the world of entertainment – she has had a serial on the air five days a week, 52 weeks a year for over 45 years.  She is the creator of the ABC Television Network’s “One Life to Live,” “All My Children” and “Loving,” in addition to working on other shows such as “Search for Tomorrow,” “As the World Turns,” “Guiding Light” and “Another World.”

The Daytime Emmy Awards presentation will be telecast on Sunday, June 27th, 2010 from Las Vegas for the first time. Nominations were announced by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) in New York City.
