Two media companies are rewarding shareholders with a little extra cash – one payout will come just before the end of the year, and the other will come early next year. The companies are ratings and research firm Arbitron and cable/motion picture firm Viacom.

The Arbitron payment will amount to a dime per common share, valued at $0.40 on a annualized basis. It will be paid on or about 1/2/13, and will be available to shareholders of record as of 12/14/12.

The Viacom payout will come a bit sooner and offers just a little more time to hop aboard as a participant. The quarterly dividend will be $0.275 per share of Class A and Class B common stock. It will be paid 12/31/12 to shareholders of record as of 12/15/12.
