So, where is the Report & Order?
FCC Chairman Michael Powell said last week it was "likely" the Report and Order for the Commission's 6/2 vote on media ownership rules would be issued yesterday (6/30), but he didn't say it was a sure thing. It wasn't. We're still waiting, just like you.
RBR Observation: If history is a guide look for the Report & Order to be released Thursday July 3rd at 4pm - right before the July 4th holiday. Holidays are great times to bury bad news and controversy.

Ethnics to chase Mickey out of San Diego?
Arthur Liu's Multicultural Radio is entering the San Diego market, apparently at the expense of Mickey Mouse. Multicultural, a brokered Ethnic group radio owner, is getting KSON-AM in from Jefferson Pilot (N:JP) in an LMA-option deal valued at $7.25M. The LMA kicks off 7/1. KSON has been the San Diego home of Radio Disney (N:DIS). Looks like the Mickster is going to have to find a new affiliate or, as he has in many, many markets, find a station he can buy himself. Multicultural is active in numerous large markets, including New York. In California, it has stations in Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento and unrated Yuba City. Broker: Michael J. Bergner, Bergner & Co.

Some 50% of the $1B annual network radio dollars allocated for next year will be spent in a couple of months. For our third annual upfront series, RBR follows the money-in the pre-network radio upfront and Q3/Q4 scatter markets; the upfront itself and resulting scatter markets. We talk with top industry network radio buyers, sellers and a few agency clients to address everything from CPMs/rates, trends, hot properties and products, predictions, supply and demand, inventory levels and the marketplace vs. last year. As well, we look at issues like what percent the nets are thinking to sell now and hold for later; what the networks could do to make the buyers' jobs easier this upfront and new creative and strategic offerings from the nets. On the buyer side, we talk with those commanding the vast majority of the dollars.
