A reader had comments on our recent story on Hispanic ratings. In your 8/19 issue Lauren Butler compares the number of Spanish-language radio stations to the Hispanic populaton. That's not quite "apples to apples." "Hispanic" does not equal "Spanish-speaking." Many Hispanics are bilingual or even primarily English-speaking, and therefore many listen to English-language radio stations. Steve Hibbard, Operations Manager, Smooth Jazz The debate about the connection between football and music continues - - but this time we revert to standard operating procedure and grant our correspondent the last word. I meant to respond to your rebuttal back a couple of weeks - - you claim that music before a brawling football game is so very odd to your thinking...were you never in attendance at any of your high school or college football games? The main entertainment before a game and at half time is indeed music...marching bands. Seems like a pop concert would be in keeping with that tradition...music and then brawl...no matter what the age of viewers/players. Just an opinion... Blake Edwards |
