O&A interviewed on Fox News Channel
In an interview on Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes," which will run on Friday, May 19th, radio jocks Opie & Anthony talk about their dislike for Howard Stern, being surprised to hear that Bill Donohue of the Catholic league now supports them, pulling controversial stunts in the future and what it's like being back on terrestial airwaves. Some highlights from the interview are below.
On Howard Stern:
Anthony: "I mean, just like everybody else listening - the guy made our lives miserable when we worked for Infinity Broadcasting. He put a gag order on us so we couldn't talk about him. He didn't like somebody else being successful in his city, in New York. His home base. We were in a different day part. We were doing afternoons, he was doing mornings."
Opie: "[We're] Sitting in his [Howard Stern's] chair, by the way...we got rid of it, though...because we didn't want to sit in it."
On Bill Donohue of the Catholic League who ended up supporting them:
Opie: "...we were shocked that he [Bill Donohue] decided to support our move back to terrestrial radio."
Anthony: "Finally a guy that's not a hypocrite is what it is. Catholic religion based on forgiveness. We went on and recognized what we did over there was stupid. He didn't hold a grudge like a lot of these groups, a lot of interest groups that get people fired, hold these grudges where they don't want you working for the rest of your life."
On pulling controversial stunts in the future:
Anthony: "Past performance is not indicative of future results. Just because we have screwed up in the past doesn't necessarily mean we're going to do it .."
Opie: "Yeah, I think we've learned from our mistakes and I think we want to keep this job for a while and it's been a while."
Opie: "We're on a runaway train with all those shocking things and how do you beat sex in a church? So I think Anthony and I have put that part of our careers behind us and we're going to move forward with our show."
On the Difference between Terrestrial and Satellite Radio:
Opie: "Much dirtier. That's all. We just let it all out. FM radio you get in and make believe you're at holiday dinner with grandma, you use that language and over at XM you just let it all hang out."
