More Commissioners hear pitch against Univision-HBC merger

Spanish Broadcasting System (O:SBSA) has been back at the FCC making its presentation in opposition to the proposed merger of Hispanic Broadcasting Corp. (N:HSP) into Univision (N:UVN).

According to ex parte disclosures filed at the FCC, SBS officials met with Commissioner Michael Copps on 10/15 and with Commissioners Kathleen Abernathy and Kevin Martin on 10/25. It was the second time that Martin heard the spiel - - he was also present for the original in September (10/22 RBR Daily Epaper). That leaves only Chairman Michael Powell who hasn't heard SBS' case against the merger, although members of his staff have heard the presentation.

"The presentation demonstrated the way in which Clear Channel Communications, Inc. had misrepresented facts to the Commission and conspired to control United States Hispanic radio in violation of the Commission's ownership limits and the antitrust laws. Raul Alarcon, Jr., President and Chief Executive Office of SBS, made the presentation," SBS said in reporting the 10/15 meeting with Copps.

In its own filing with the FCC (10/23 RBR Daily Epaper), Clear Channel denounced SBS' charges as "indefensible and outrageous."
