FCC grants one Hispanic TV rep waiver, considers another

Liberman Television applied for and received an FCC waiver allowing its Estrella TV network to also act as a sales representative for its affiliated television stations. Spanish Broadcasting System would like the same waiver for its own MegaTV service.

The reason Liberman asked for it, and the FCC agreed to provide it, is to maintain a level playing field in the Hispanic television market, where big guns Univision and Telemundo have such waivers permanently. The waiver was granted without opposition.

The SBS request is being put out for public comment on an ex parte permit-but-disclose basis under MB Docket No. 10-89.
