On Oct. 25, the La Plata County, Colo. Board of Commissioners urged the FCC to grant a Petition for Special Relief that would have modified the television market of CBS Corp. O&O KCNC-4 in Denver and Tribune Media‘s FOX affiliated KDVR-31 in order to ensure that local DirecTV and DISH Network viewers were receiving relevant news and information pertaining to Colorado.
That set off alarms at Media General and subsidiary LIN Media. Why? La Plata County is roughly 325 miles from Denver and has Durango as its county seat.
Durango is some 200 miles from Albuquerque, N. Mex., and that’s where LIN owns Fox KASA-2 and CBS KRQE-13.
Both stations have enjoyed coverage in La Plata County for decades.
