It's not a democracy, STUPID.The problem is, those in high positions believe we are a democracy. They don't know their history. They don't know we are a "Republic". You pledge allegence to flag..."and to the Republic for which is stands..." This is not semantics. We know longer listen to our Founders.Democracy... while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide. - John AdamsSound familiar? The mob (majority) rules in a democrary. The LAW rules in a Republic. Simply stated, in a democracy, two wolves and a sheep vote on what's for dinner. Majority rules. In a Republic, the sheep has Constitutional rights regardless of the majority. Those who are violating our Republic are going to try to give us the answers. Please, don't "fix" anything else.

Democracy or Republic. Doesn't matter really. Either one runs on IDEAS and this is exactly what Copps and those other chowderheads at the FCC have managed to squelch by allowing consolidation to take over the broadcasting business. Listen to any Clear Channel station and it's the same crap market by market. Cookie-cutter announcers and formats. It's a shame that our business has become a joke.

Consolidation is NOT the problem and never was. The problem IS that we have allowed ourselves to be undervalued. Adequate training—for on-air personalities etc.—simply does not exist therefore we have relegated ourselves to a mediocre product that becomes less valuable with each cycle which in turn generates a vicious cycle. Copps demonstrates an incredible stupidity by asserting that somehow there are fewer outlets for journalists. Frankly, there are so many outlets the information can be difficult to digest.
