Commercial broadcasters aren’t the only ones looking to the internet to maximize the value of their operation. WUSF Media is enhancing its public television and radio presence with the acquisition of noncommercial health news service Health News Florida.

Coming along with the service is its founder and editor Carol Gentry.

“This is such a significant milestone for WUSF Public Media,” said JoAnn Urofsky, general manager. “Health News Florida will position us as a leader across the state when it comes to reporting on healthcare. Carol Gentry’s expertise will add significantly to our current newsroom capacity.”

The USF in WUSF stand for University of Southern Florida. With both radio and television in its portfolio, it brings PBS, NPR and noncommercial classical music to the people in the greater Tampa-St. Petersburg area.
