FOX Sunday animation holds well against sports

FOX’s animated comedies aired against significant competition from NFL Football and Major League Baseball playoffs last night and did not have the benefit of last week’s football lead-in.

At 8p THE SIMPSONS posted a 3.0/8 among Adults 18-49, down -29% versus last week (4.2/11).  THE CLEVELAND SHOW followed at 8:30p and delivered a 2.6/7 among Adults 18-49, down from last week by -16% (3.1/8).  Airing from 9-9:30p FAMILY GUY posted a 3.4/9 among Adults 18-49, down -15% from last week (4.0/10).  AMERICAN DAD closed the night with a 2.5/6 at 9:30p among Adults 18-49, down -17% compared to last week (3.0/7).

Competition

Following America’s Funniest Home Videos (1.5/5), ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (2.3/6) recorded its lowest telecast this season, down -12% week over week.  At 9p and 10p, Desperate Housewives (3.8/9) and Brothers & Sisters (2.8/7) both posted their lowest original Fall telecasts ever. Desperate Housewives declined -14% versus last week while Brothers & Sisters was down -7%.

Due to an NFL overrun until 7:58p, Fast Nationals for CBS are approximate. At 8p, 60 Minutes posted a 3.8/10, followed by The Amazing Race (3.8/10) at 9p and Undercover Boss (3.5/9) at 10p.

Due to the nature of live sports, Fast Nationals for NBC are approximate. In addition, note that NBC’s 7p NFL Pre-Game will be sustained by Nielsen. Following Football Night In America at 7p (1.8/6), 730p (2.4/7) and 8p (4.8/14), NBC’s Sunday Night Football Game 5: Philadelphia Eagles vs. San Francisco 49ers posted a 5.7/15 from 830-11p, up from last year’s Sunday Night week five matchup (IND Colts vs. TEN Titans), which delivered a 5.5/14 from 8:30-11p in the Fast Nationals before rising to a 6.2/16 from 8:32-11:21p in the Finals.
