FOX’s 2 hr ‘American Idol’ unveiled seven semifinalists stands #1

Up against the Winter Olympics last night AMERICAN IDOL delivered a dominant first place finish across all demos, outperforming the games by +69% in Adults 18-49, +97% among Adults 18-34, +137% among Teens and +16% in Total Viewers.


IDOL saw little impact from the Winter Olympics, posting a 9.1/22 and drawing 23.6 million Total Viewers. 

Versus the same night last year (which was not against any major sporting or entertainment events) IDOL retained 98% of its core Adults 18-49 audience, 97% of Adults 18-34 and 94% of Total Viewers.

Season to date, AMERICAN IDOL has retained 96% of its audience in Adults 18-49. Adults 18-34 and Total Viewers.

Competition
Following an 8p Lost repeat (1.5/4), week three of ABC’s Lost (4.5/10) delivered its lowest rating of the year, falling -10% week over week and -17% from its prior average (5.4/14). So far, Lost is showing week-to-week losses with every episode of the season (5.5/14 > 5.0/12 > 4.5/10).  The Forgotten delivered a 1.7/5 at 10p.

CBS aired NCIS (2.3/6), NCIS: LA (1.8/4) and The Good Wife (1.4/4) repeats.

Night five of NBC’s Vancouver Olympics delivered a 5.4/14 from 8-11p, about even with night five of the most recent Winter Games in Torino, Italy which posted a 5.6/14 on 2/14/06.  Through five nights, the Vancouver games are outperforming the 2006 Torino games among Adults 18-49 (7.3/21 vs. 6.6/17) and Total Viewers (26.6 Mil vs. 21.6 Mil).
