FOX’s ‘American Idol’ #1 built strong lead for ‘Human Target’

FOX won last night across the board, dominating the next highest-rated network by +81% among Adults 18-49, +111% among Adults 18-34, +125% among Teens and +35% in Total Viewers.


At 8p HUMAN TARGET posted a 2.4/7 among Adults 18-49 and showed significant gains versus its most recent telecast on 2/17/10, increasing +14% among Adults 18-49, +23% among Adults 18-34 and +8% in Total Viewers. HUMAN TARGET won the 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 25-54 and all key male demos.

The Top 8 boys competed on AMERICAN IDOL at 9pm and posted a 7.5/20 among Adults 18-49, winning the hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos. 

AMERICAN IDOL dominated its time period showing an advantage of +121% over the next highest-rated network among Adults 18-49, +122% among Adults 18-34, +207% among Teens and +56% among Total Viewers.

So far this season (Most Current ratings vs. comparable Most Current), AMERICAN IDOL’s average is on par with the same weeks last year, showing 94% retention among Adults 18-49, 96% among Adults 18-34, 97% among Teens and 95% in Total Viewers.

Compared to last year’s comparable performance show on Wednesday, 3/4/09, AMERICAN IDOL held 96% of its audience among Adults 18-49 and 95% among Adults 18-34.

Competition
Following a special Wednesday Scrubs (1.5/5), ABC’s The Middle (2.3/7) and Modern Family (3.7/10) both matched their 2009/10 average original rating.  Cougar Town (2.6/7) was low at 9:30p while the 10p Ugly Betty (1.5/4) was on par.

CBS’ The New Adventures of Old Christine (2.3/7) and Gary Unmarried (2.2/7) were in line with their prior season averages and Criminal Minds (3.4/9) was slightly low.  At 10p, CSI: NY (2.6/8) aired its lowest original episode ever.
On NBC, Mercy (1.5/5) was down at 8p, a Law & Order: SVU repeat delivered a 1.4/4 at 9p and an original episode of Law & Order: SVU (2.6/8) ran at 10p.

The CW’s 90-minute premiere of America’s Next Top Model (1.6/5) was in line with its fall debut (1.5/4) but down -11% from last year’s spring opening on 3/4/09 (1.8/5).  At 9:30p, the premiere of new reality series High Society posted a 0.6/2.
