Fox's ‘American Idol’ rock-solid #1, ‘GLEE’ does well

On a highly competitive night, this season’s first one-hour AMERICAN IDOL performance show and the Madonna-themed episode of GLEE led FOX to win the night across all demos and beat the next highest-rated network by +88% among Adults 18-49, +125% among Adults 18-34, +255% among Teens and +70% in Total Viewers.


AMERICAN IDOL:
In its first one-hour performance show, the Top 7 on AMERICAN IDOL posted a 6.7/20 among Adults 18-49 and dominated its 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  Due to a slight overrun last night, AMERICAN IDOL will likely increase a tenth or two in the finals, and even now is on par with its average last week in the comparable 8-9p hour among Adults 18-49 (6.7/20 vs. 7.0/21) and Total Viewers (19.1 vs. 19.6 Mil) and showed growth in Adults 18-34 (5.5/18 vs. 5.4/18).

In the 8p hour AMERICAN IDOL beat its nearest competitors by +131% among Adults 18-49, +162% among Adults 18-34, +227% among Teens and +43% in Total Viewers.

Last night’s AMERICAN IDOL performance show outperformed ABC’s Dancing With The Stars’ performance show on Monday by +40% among Adults 18-49.

So far this season, AMERICAN IDOL’s average is on par with the same weeks last year with Most Current ratings vs. comparable Most Current, showing 93% retention among Adults 18-49, 93% among Adults 18-34, 95% among Teens and 94% in Total Viewers.

GLEE:
Week two of GLEE’s Spring semester posted a 5.3/14 among Adults 18-49 and achieved its second highest-rated telecast ever among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34 and most key demos. 

In addition, GLEE boasted its highest ratings ever in Teens (+3% from last week, 4.1 vs. 4.0) and in Women 18-49 (tied with last week, 7.1).

Compared to last week’s spring debut, GLEE shows retention of 95% among Adults 18-49, 93% in Adults 18-34, 99% in Total Viewers and growth of +3% in Teens.

GLEE now ties as the highest rated new scripted series of the season among Adults 18-49 (tie with Modern Family) and is the highest rated new scripted series of the season among Adults 18-34.

So far this spring GLEE has outperformed its prior season originals average (Wed 9p) by +67% among Adults 18-49, +56% among Adults 18-34, +71% among Teens and +86% among Total Viewers.

Competition
ABC’s Dancing With The Stars results show (2.4/7) posted the program’s lowest original rating ever (excluding recaps), dropping -14% from last week and -11% from its prior average this spring (2.7/8).  Lost (3.6/9) followed suit at 9p, delivering its lowest original rating ever (excluding clip shows) and falling – 8% from last week’s telecast.  V (2.3/7) was on the low side at 10p, up a tenth versus last week but down -8% from its prior spring average (2.5/7).

CBS aired repeats of NCIS (1.7/5), NCIS: LA (2.0/5) and The Good Wife (1.4/4).

NBC’s The Biggest Loser 9 (3.3/9) was flat with last week, while Parenthood (2.9/8) grew +16%.
