Fox’s ‘American Idol’ ruled Wednesday night

Last night, FOX won the night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  In fact, FOX outperformed its nearest competition for the night by +58% among Adults 18-49 (3.8/12 vs. 2.4/7 for CBS), +75% among Adults 18-34 (2.8/10 vs. 1.6/6 for ABC), +130% among Teens (2.3/9 vs. 1.0/4 for ABC) and +22% in Total Viewers (11.7 vs. 9.6 Mil for CBS).


An encore of LIE TO ME posted a 1.3/4 among Adults 18-49 and ranked No. 5 in the time period among Adults 18-49 and No. 4 in Adults 18-34 (tie).

At 9p the Final Five results show of AMERICAN IDOL delivered a 6.3/17 among Adults 18-49 and showed growth compared to Tuesday’s performance show of +2% among Adults 18-49 (vs. 6.2/18), +18% in Teens (4.0/15 vs. 3.4/13) and +9% in Total Viewers (19.1 vs. 17.5 Mil.)  Last night’s results show outperformed last week’s results by +3% among Teens (4.0/15 vs. 3.9/14).

AMERICAN IDOL won its hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos and showed advantages over its nearest competitors of +91% among Adults 18-49 (6.3/17 vs. 3.3/9 for CBS), +68% among Adults 18-34 (4.7/15 vs. 2.8/9 for ABC), +208% among Teens (4.0/15 vs. 1.3/5 for ABC) and +57% in Total Viewers (19.1 vs. 12.2 Mil for CBS.)

AMERICAN IDOL’s Tue/Wed average this week outperformed ABC’s Dancing With The Stars Mon/Tue average by +82% among Adults 18-49 (6.2/18 vs. 3.4/10) and +10% in Total Viewers (18.3 vs. 16.6 Mil.) 

So far this season, AMERICAN IDOL’s Most Current ratings vs. the comparable Most Current weeks last year show 91% retention among Adults 18-49 (8.8/23 vs. 9.7/24), 91% among Adults 18-34 (7.3/21 vs. 8.0/22), 95% among Teens (6.1/20 vs. 6.4/21) and 92% in Total Viewers (24.2 vs. 26.2 Mil.)

Competition

ABC ran a repeat of The Middle (1.3/5) followed by average originals of The Middle (2.2/7) and Modern Family (3.8/11).  At 930p, Cougar Town (2.4/7) was low, down -20% from its prior performance with first-run episodes (3.0/8) and week two of new drama Happy Town (1.2/4) dropped -29% from its premiere last Wednesday (1.7/5).

On CBS, a slightly low telecast of The New Adventures Of Old Christine (1.8/6) was followed by a special repeat Big Bang Theory (1.8/6) and an underperforming Criminal Minds (3.3/9).  CSI: NY (2.2/7) delivered its lowest original ever, dropping -31% from its season average with first-run episodes (3.2/9).

After a repeat Minute To Win It (1.6/6), NBC’s Mercy (1.0/3) delivered its lowest original rating to date, down -41% from its 2009/10 average with first-run episodes (1.7/5).  Law & Order: SVU (2.6/8) was on par at 10p.

The CW aired America’s Next Top Model (1.5/5) at 8p and the season finale of Fly Girls (0.5/1) from 9-10p.
