Fox’s ‘American Idol’ solid in 18-49 demo; ‘NCIS’ knocking at the door

Last night’s AMERICAN IDOL / KITCHEN NIGHMARES combo led FOX to a nightly win among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54, Teens and all key demos.


AMERICAN IDOL:
Week four of auditions on AMERICAN IDOL-TUE posted an 8.9/23 among Adults 18-49 and drew 24.4 million Total Viewers. Last night’s audition episode is right in line with last Tuesday’s audition episode, down only -1% in the adult demo (which will likely go up in the finals this afternoon) and virtually flat in Total Viewers.

AMERICAN IDOL’s average so far this year with audition telecasts is in-line with last year’s average, showing retention of 95% among Adults 18-49, 96% among Adults 18-34 and 96% in Total Viewers.

AMERICAN IDOL won the 8p hour among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Adults 25-54, Teens and all key demos.  In fact, AMERICAN IDOL outperformed its nearest competitors in the 8p hour by a substantial +107% among Adults 18-49, +95% among Adults 18-34, +382% in Teens and +28% in Total Viewers.

In addition, AMERICAN IDOL outperformed the second-highest rated program of the night (ABC’s premiere of Lost) last night by +59% among Adults 18-49 and +102% in Total Viewers.

KITCHEN NIGHTMARES:
At 9p a special KITCHEN NIGHTMARES posted a 3.9/10 among Adults 18-49 and drew 9.3 million Total Viewers — its highest ratings ever in Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers.

KITCHEN NIGHTMARES ranked No. 2 in the 9p hour among Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34 and No. 1 in Teens (tie).

Competition
Following a special 8p Lost clip show (4.1/11), the two-hour premiere of ABC’s Lost delivered a 5.6/14, up from last year’s season five premiere (5.1/13 on Wednesday 1/21/09).

On CBS, NCIS (4.3/11) and NCIS: LA (3.6/9) were followed by a low-rated episode of The Good Wife (2.6/7).

NBC ran a special Biggest Loser repeat (1.6/4) at 8p and a two-hour Biggest Loser original (3.7/9) at 9p.
