So what is Nielsen’s proprietary Software Development Kit and what will it do for radio’s digital audio ratings?
First, a little explanation of how radio is measured today and how it will be in the future, is needed.
Nielsen’s approach for measuring digital audio with its SDK includes: reach (meaning number of listeners, sessions or quarter hours,) demographics by age and daypart, duration or TSL and location, by Metro or DMA.
Today, digital stream measurement is monitored by the PPM and panel-based. In the future with SDK-based measurement, data would be census-based, it’s 100% passive measurement and no encoding would be needed.
Nielsen Audio is now retrieving data from 2,500+ stations, including commercial and non-commercial stations.
At launch, client data would be available in TAPSCAN.
