Longtime Carolina broadcaster Gerald “Jerry” Lee Peterson died Friday, November 26th, shortly after his last broadcast on WRHI-AM Rock Hill, SC. He was 76.

Peterson spent his last 21 years as part of the morning show team on WRHI, delivering the weather and his folksy comments. He had earlier spent 10 years as a weather forecaster on WSOC-TV Charlotte, NC. In all, his broadcasting career spanned 60 years – from radio in Oklahoma and Texas to TV in Tampa, Houston, Chicago and Charlotte, then back to radio at WRHI.

Just last January Peterson was inducted into the South Carolina Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame.

A memorial service will take place Wednesday, December 1st, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel in Rock Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donation be made in Peterson’s name to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, SC.
