CRISTA Broadcasting announced that KFMK 105.9 Austin, TX will re-launch as Spirit 105.9 when its new Christian Contemporary format begins 9/20. The transition of KFMK from Clear Channel’s Aloha Trust to CRISTA Broadcasting has received final FCC thumbs up. KFMK was “The River,” also playing Contemporary Christian. KFMK swapped formats in early June with former Clear Channel sister KPEZ, which took the Urban/Hip Hop “102.3 The Beat.”

“We are pleased to have received FCC approval, and now we are days away from beginning a new era for CRISTA Broadcasting,” said Stan Mak, VP/GM of CRISTA Broadcasting. “SPIRIT 105.9 is here because of the overwhelming support for this format that we heard time and time again in our conversations with Austin listeners.SPIRIT 105.9 is going to provide uplifting music and message to the great people of Austin.”

Tim McCoy, who oversaw Univision’s Central Texas radio holdings from 2003 to 2009, will serve as general manager for 105.9 FM

KFMK is the fourth station O&O’d by CRISTA, joining SPIRIT 105.3 and KCIS AM 630 of Seattle, and PRAISE 106.5 of Bellingham, Washington.
