KINK-FM collects coats for homeless

On 10/22 5am-7pm, Alpha Broadcasting’s KINK-FM Portland will conduct its annual Truckload of Coats, a donation drive to help the homeless population of Portland stay warm during the winter months.  Two 50-foot Safeway trucks will be filled at the end of the day with listener donations collected at two Safeway locations.

KINK is calling upon listeners to help fill the trucks with gently used coats, sweaters, hats, gloves, toiletries, duffle bags, socks, supplies for children and babies.  The station will be broadcasting live.

All donations will be distributed by Transition Projects Inc, whose mission is to serve people’s basic needs as they transition from homelessness to housing. Each year the organization serves more than 9,000 people in the Portland area, sheltering nearly 300 people every day and providing a menu of services to homeless and low-income persons.

Locally owned Columbia Sportswear will also join in on the campaign again this year, donating new coats from their warehouse as well as bringing along the results of an in-house coat collection drive conducted by its staff.

“We know how cold and wet the winters get around here and all of us have coats and other items that just hang in the closet unused,” commented KINK Program Director Chris Mays.  “This is the perfect time to help us fill the trucks and help Portland’s homeless population, which continues to grow each year.”
