“NIGHTLINE” CONTINUES GROWTH TREND: INCREASES +11% AMONG TOTAL VIEWERS AND +16% AMONG A25-54 YEAR TO YEAR

ABC News’ “Nightline” placed second among Adults 25-54, Adults 18-49 and Total Viewers for the week of February 8, 2010, according to Nielsen Media Research. It also tied CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman” in the A18-49 rating (1.2). Additionally, “Nightline” continues to experience growth. Among Total Viewers, growing for the fourth week in a row. With 4.18 million viewers, the program increased +11% compared to the same week last year, while NBC’s “Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien” decreased -59%. Week to week, “Nightline” increased +3% among Total Viewers. The program is solidly in second place season to date among Total Viewers and Adults 25-54.
Among Adults 25-54, “Nightline” grew for the third straight week and posted its best demo delivery since November 2008. Averaging 1.89 million (1.5 rating), “Nightline” increased +16% compared to the same week last year, while “The Tonight Show” declined -44%. Week to week, “Nightline” increased +6% among A25-54 and +9% among A18-49.
“Nightline” outperformed “The Tonight Show” in 33 of the last 34 weeks among Total Viewers. Season to date “Nightline” has outperformed “The Tonight Show” among A25-54 17 times. For the week, “The Tonight Show” dropped to its lowest total viewer delivery since at least the 91/92 season.
Last week “Nightline” featured a profile on the outlaw at the center of America’s longest running stand-off, an update on the Somer Thompson investigation, and continued coverage of the massive snowstorms that impacted much of the country.
*Note: “Nightline” was based on a 4-day average (Monday-Thursday); “The Tonight Show” was also based on a 4-day average (Monday-Thursday) due to the opening ceremony of the Olympics on Friday night.
