Leno begins with Olympic gold

When Jay Leno returns to the “Tonight Show” following the run of the Olympics on NBC, he is turning to the Olympics for his first guest. And day two will also feature an Olympian, along with a politician.

Fresh from winning gold in Vancouver, skiier Lindsay Vonn will appear on the first Leno show back in the only 11:35 pm ET time slot. She should be a fun guest, since she joked at the games about what it would be like if a female athlete admitted to a sex addition like Tiger Woods. Jamie Foxx, who has no connection to the Olympics that we know of, will also be a guest. Brad Paisley will be Jay’s first musical guest.

Day two of the new show brings former Alaska governor and GOP vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin to the guest seat. But the Olympics will still be in play, with snowboarder Shaun White.

More Olympics on Wednesday, with speed skater Apolo Ohno. Also the cast of “Jersey Shore,” Chelsea Handler and musical guest Avril Lavigne.

The first week rounds out with Matthew McConaughey and Jason Reitman on Thursday and Morgan Freeman and Meredity Vieira on Friday.

Is it to dispell any image of Jay as the nasty party in the recent late night battle at NBC that he has “Mr. Nasty” himself, Simon Cowell as his guest on Monday, March 8th?

And so it goes. Other guests the second week include Christoph Waltz, Dave Salmoni, Joan Jett, Kristen Stewart, Guy Fieri, Dana Carvey, Kim Kardashian, Colbie Caillat, Dakota Fanning and Judd Apatow.
