 NBC’s Independence Day telecast of “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks®  Spectacular” has hit a three-year high, scoring the #1 Nielsen results among all major-network programs last night in adults 18-49 and total viewers.  
 
According to preliminary fast affiliate-based “live plus same day” viewer figures from Nielsen Media Research, NBC’s 9-10 p.m. ET telecast of “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” delivered a 1.4 rating, 7 share in adults 18-49 and 7.1 million viewers overall, for the night’s #1 results in 18-49 and total viewers.
 
The annual telecast generated gains over last year’s Saturday coverage of 40 percent in adults 18-49 (with a 1.4 rating vs. a 1.0) and 35 percent or more than 1.8 million persons in total viewers (7.1 million vs. 5.2 million). 
 
These are the highest 18-49 and total-viewer results for the “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” in three years, since the telecast on Wednesday, July 4, 2007.
 
This year’s edition of “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular” won its time period in adults 18-49, total viewers and other key ratings categories.  From its first half-hour to its second, the “Macy’s” special increased in 18-49 rating by 33 percent (to a 1.6 from a 1.2) and in total viewers by 59 percent or 3.2 million persons (to 8.7 million from 5.5 million).
 
At 10 p.m. ET, NBC’s “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) ranked #1 among the major networks in adults 18-49 versus CBS’s “Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular” and ABC’s rebroadcast of “The Gates.”  “Law & Order: CI” was also #1 among adults 18-34 and all key adult-male demos. 
 
From 7-9 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” (0.7/4 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall) is currently tied for #2 in the time period among the major networks in adults 18-49, is #2 outright in total viewers and is tied for #1 among women 25-54.
 
NBC is #1 for the night among the major networks in adults 18-49 and other key categories.
 
Preliminary 18-49 averages for Sunday night are: NBC, 1.0/5; Fox, 0.9/4; ABC, 0.7/3; and CBS, 0.7/3.  In overall total viewers, July 4 preliminary results are: CBS, 5.0 million; NBC, 4.7 million; ABC, 2.7 million; and Fox, 2.1 million.
