Mr. Murdoch to the stand, please

ABC News reports that Rupert Murdoch is resisting giving testimony in the civil lawsuit by EchoStar/Dish Network against a News Corporation subsidiary, NDS – and that could cost News Corp. big bucks. NDS is accused of hacking into the Dish Network security code and publishing it on the Internet in the late 1990s. EchoStar CEO Charlie Ergen has already testified. Murdoch has said he doesn’t know anything about the hacking, but doesn’t want to go to court to say so. According to ABC News, the judge in the case warned the lawyers for News Corp. that if Murdoch does not testify, there could be a risk to the company in how the jury views the CEO’s no show. EchoStar claims it had expenses of more than $100 million to reissue security cards to all of its customers after the hacking.
