Roger Ailes is now a newspaper man
He isn’t quitting his day job as President of Fox News Channel and Chairman of the Fox Television Stations Group, but Roger Ailes and his wife, Elizabeth, are now the proud owners of The Putnam County News and Recorder in Cold Spring, NY. The rival New York Times – rival in the sense that a few stores in Cold Spring probably sell both papers – reports that the 142-year-old weekly has a circulation of about 3,000. Elizabeth Ailes, herself a veteran of NBC, CNBC and her college newspaper, will be publisher, but a general manager will be hired to run the paper. Cold Spring is located about 60 miles north of New York City.
RBR/TVBR observation: The first thing the new owners need to do is have the paper come out strongly against the crime wave threatening their community. The Putnam County News and Recorder reported that two people – locals, no less – were arrested last month for vandalizing a vehicle.
