Former Rep finds a niche on cable

JC Watts, who used to go around with (R-OK) after his name as a member of the Oklahoma delegation to the House of Representatives, is now Chairman of Black Television News Channel, which bills itself as "the nation's only African-American news network." It is scheduled to kick of 24/7 operation in 2009, and it will have a strong cable platform courtesy of Comcast. The cable giant will carry the fledgling net in Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Washington, Atlanta and Baltimore. "Our unique and vast content partnerships will provide our viewers live access to the stories and people in whom our viewers have a special interest," said Watts. "With this agreement, Comcast continues to demonstrate its commitment to working with independent programmers with diverse points of view."

RBR/TVBR observation: It remains to be seen if the African-American community will see this in a positive light. As a conservative Republican, Watts is not exactly in the mainstream of African-American political thought. Stay tuned.
