Young Broadcasting Accounting Manager Andrew DeBaker, CPA, is the winner of the scholarship from Media Financial Management Association (MFM) and its BCCA subsidiary honoring Steve McIntosh. This is the first year of the scholarship in memory of the Belo executive who was murdered in April 2011.

The 2012 Steve McIntosh Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a recipient currently employed by a media provider and who has worked in the media industry for no more than five years.  DeBaker, who has served as Young Broadcasting’s Accounting Manager since joining the company in 2007, supervises a team of accountants that is responsible for monthly financial closings, reconciliations and financial analysis projects for the company’s eleven television stations.

“While selecting one winner from among many deserving applicants was a very difficult task, Andrew DeBaker stands out for demonstrating the leadership, knowledge and willingness to take on what others would consider insurmountable tasks,” said Mary M. Collins, President and CEO of MFM and BCCA.  “Those qualities were also demonstrated by Steve McIntosh, who helped to develop them in others through his leadership role in educational programs such as our annual conference.  Through this scholarship, we can help to ensure that the next generation of our industry’s financial leaders will help to carry on Steve’s commitment to improving the performance of business practices, especially the ones affecting our advertiser relationships.”

As the scholarship winner, DeBaker will attend the MFM 52nd annual conference in May in Las Vegas with all major expenses paid.
