'Modern Family' and 'Grey's Anatomy' registered TV's Top 2 in playback

DVR Playback for the week of 10/4/10: For the 3rd straight week this season, ABC’s “Modern Family” and “Grey’s Anatomy” registered as TV’s Top 2 biggest gainers from the first-reported numbers to the DVR finals in Adults 18-49.


 “Modern Family” finished as the week’s top gainer, picking up on an additional 1.5 rating points and jumping by +33% from a 4.6 rating to a 6.1 rating, from the Live + Same Day to the Live + 7 Day Adult 18-49 averages.  As a result, “Modern Family” emerged as the sole #1 scripted series for the week (initially in the L+SD averages there was a 3-way tie for the top spot during the week). 

In fact in the revised numbers, ABC claimed the Top 2 scripted shows for the week, as Modern Family and Grey’s Anatomy each moved ahead of Fox’s Glee in the finals.   Both ABC programs also added on nearly 3 million more Total Viewers from their initial tallies:  Modern Family (11.5 million to 14.4 million) and Grey’s (12.8 million to 15.7 million).

A total of 11 ABC series built by 1.0 million viewers or more on average from their first-reported numbers to the final DVR playback stats, including  “Modern Family” (+2.9 million), “Grey’s Anatomy” (+2.9 million), “Castle” (+2.4 million), “Private Practice” (+1.9 million), “Desperate Housewives” (+1.8 million), “No Ordinary Family” (+1.4 million), “Brothers & Sisters” (+1.4 million), “Detroit 1-8-7” (+1.3 million), “Cougar Town” (+1.2 million), “The Whole Truth” (+1.1 million) and “The Middle” (+1.0 million).

Among Adults 18-49, 6 of ABC’s scripted series delivered substantial ratings increases of 7-tenths of rating point or more:   “Modern Family” (+1.5 rating), “Grey’s Anatomy” (+1.4 rating), “Private Practice” (+1.0 rating), “Desperate Housewives” (+0.9 rating), “Castle” (+0.8 rating) and “Cougar Town” (+0.7 rating).
