NBC celebrates Monday win

Monday Results:


* From 8-10 p.m. ET, the regular-slot debut of “The Voice” (6.6 rating, 16 share in adults 18-49, 17.7 million viewers overall) achieved NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in slot excluding Olympics since Feb. 16, 2004 and biggest overall audience in the time period, excluding Olympics, since January 15, 2007.  Looking at just regular programming, it’s NBC’s best total-viewer performance in the slot in-season since April 3, 2006.

* “The Voice” delivered NBC’s highest rating for a regular in-season entertainment telecast on any night of the week in over four years (since “Heroes” on September 24, 2007) in adults 18-49, excluding specials and the post-Super Bowl “Voice” of the night before.  And “The Voice” delivered NBC’s top regular in-season entertainment telecast in total viewers since “Deal or No Deal” on March 5, 2007 (18.394 million), excluding specials and the post-Super Bowl “Voice” of the night before.  “The Voice” also generated NBC’s highest rating for a regular telecast among teens 12-17 since the episode of “ER” that followed the “Friends” finale on May 6, 2004, again excluding specials and the post-Super Bowl “Voice.”  

* “The Voice” is up 29% versus last year’s 5.1 for the “Voice” series debut and up 50 percent in total viewers (17.686 mil vs. 11.775 mil).  Versus NBC’s season averages in the time period (1.8), “The Voice” was up 267 percent in 18-49 rating (6.6 vs. 1.8) and was up 217% percent in total viewers (17.686 million vs. 5.587 million).

* From its first half-hour to its fourth, “The Voice” grew dramatically, generating this track: 5.3, 6.2, 7.3, 7.7, for an increase from its first half-hour to its fourth of 45 percent in 18-49 and 26 percent in total viewers.  “The Voice” reached nearly 20 million viewers overall by its fourth half-hour (19.4 million viewers).

* “The Voice” delivered NBC’s first 18-49 win over regular, original in-season competition on ABC and CBS in this slot, excluding Olympics, since November 3, 2008 (“Deal or No Deal,” “SNL” special).  And it was the first time a full two hours of 8-10 p.m. regularly scheduled NBC programming beat a full block of regularly scheduled CBS original comedies since November 5, 2007 with “Chuck” and “Heroes.”

* At 10 p.m. ET, the premiere of “Smash” (3.8/10, 11.5 million viewers overall) scored the highest 18-49 rating for any episode of a regular 10 p.m. drama on ABC, CBS or NBC on any night of the week so far this season.  “Smash” delivered NBC’s top in-season 18-49 and total-viewer results in the time period since November 3, 2008 (“SNL” election special).

* “Smash” is NBC’s highest-rated new drama premiere in more than four years in 18-49, since “Life” on September 26,2007.  It was also NBC’s highest-rated drama telecast since “Law & Order: SVU” did a 3.9 on April 28, 2009.  “Smash” nearly quadrupled  NBC’s season average in the slot (3.8 vs. 1.0) and nearly doubled NBC’s season average in total viewers (11.498 million vs. 3.864 million).

* This is NBC’s first 18-49 win in the slot vs. regular, original in-season competition on ABC and CBS, excluding Olympics, since November 3, 2008 (SNL election special)

* NBC dominated the night in 18-49 and total viewers, delivering its first win with regularly-scheduled programming in-season in four years (since February 18, 2008 with “Deal Or No Deal,” the “My Dad Is Better Than Your Dad” premiere and “Medium”). This is NBC’s highest-rated Monday (5.7 in 18-49) with regular programming since March 15, 2004 (“Average Joe,” “Fear Factor” and “Las Vegas”), with the subsequent Monday, March 22, 2004 matching this week’s 5.7 rating.

* This is also the highest-rated night after Super Bowl in 18-49 in 10 years, since CBS with a 5.9 on Monday January 29, 2001.

In Late-Night Metered Markets Monday night:
* In Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, household results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 3.5/9; CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” 2.9/7; and ABC’s combo of “Nightline,” 3.2.8; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 1.4/4. 

* In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 1.2/6; “Late Show,” 0.8/4; “Nightline,” 1.0/4; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 0.6/3.

* At 12:35 a.m., “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.9/7 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (1.2/4).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Late Night” (0.8/5 in 18-49 with an encore) topped “Late Late Show” (0.4/3).

* At 1:35 a.m., “Last Call with Carson Daly” averaged a 1.2/5 with an encore in metered-market households and a 0.5/4 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters

For the Week:
* Paced by NBC Sports’ telecast of Super Bowl XLVI and the second season debut of “The Voice,” NBC won the week in all key measures, averaging a 7.7 rating, 20 share in adults 18-49 and 21.4 million viewers overall for the week of January 30-February 5. 

* NBC’s telecast of Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday goes into the record books as the most-watched Super Bowl ever and most-viewed telecast in U.S. television history, with an average 111.346 million viewers overall.  And the second season premiere of “The Voice,” which followed the Super Bowl Post-Game show, delivered the highest 18-49 rating for any entertainment program on any network in six years and attracted the biggest overall viewership for any NBC post-Super Bowl telecast since “Friends” in 1996.  

* NBC Sports’ coverage of Super Bowl XLVI, the Super Bowl Post-Game show and “The Voice” were the #1, #2 and #3 programs of the week respectively in all key ratings measures.

* With a 7.7 rating for the week in adults 18-49, this marks NBC’s highest-rated week in primetime’s key demographic since the week of January 26-February 1, 2009 (the week of Super Bowl XLIII).  And, with an average 21.4 million viewers for the week, it is NBC’s top week by that measure since the week of February 15-21, 2010 (Vancouver Olympics).

* Primetime averages for the week of January 30-February 5 in adults 18-49 were NBC (7.7/20), Fox (2.4/6), CBS (1.8/5), ABC (1.5/4) and CW (0.7/2).  In overall total viewers the weekly averages were NBC (21.4 million), CBS (8.4 million), Fox (6.8 million), ABC (5.1 million) and CW (1.6 million).
