NBC Wednesday ratings

Wednesday Results:
* At 8 p.m. ET, “Whitney” averaged a 1.5/4 in 18-49 and 4.1 million viewers overall in an intensely competitive time period opposite Fox’s “American Idol,” CBS’s “Survivor: One World” and ABC’s “The Middle.”  Week to week, “Whitney” maintained its 18-49 rating (1.5 vs. 1.5) and grew by 0.3 percent in total viewers (4.128 million vs. 4.114 million), pending updates.  Versus NBC’s average in the time period last season, “Whitney” is up 15 percent in 18-49 rating (with a 1.5 vs. a 1.3, “live plus same day” non-sports).  Note that first-run telecasts of “Whitney” have averaged a 37 percent increase on these next-day “live plus same day” ratings when Nielsen has issued “live plus seven day” results.


* At 8:30 ET, “Are You There, Chelsea?” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall) retained 87 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from “Whitney” against intense time-period competition from the concluding half-hours of “American Idol” and CBS’s “Survivor: One World,” plus the ABC comedy “Suburgatory.”   Week to week, “Chelsea” maintained its 18-49 rating (1.3 vs. 1.3) and grew by 5 percent in total viewers (3.537 million vs. 3.378 million).  Keep in mind that first-run telecasts of “Chelsea” have been adding 28 percent to these next-day “live plus same day” ratings when Nielsen issues “live plus seven day” results.

* At 9 p.m. ET, “Rock Center with Brian Williams” averaged a 0.7/2 in adults 18-49 and 2.9 million viewers overall.  Versus the prior week, “Rock Center” was up 17 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 0.7 from a 0.6) and up 7 percent in total viewers (2.890 million vs. 2.697 million). 

* At 10 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” delivered a 1.6/4 in 18-49 and 5.4 million viewers overall, growing from its first half-hour to its second in every key ratings category.  “SVU” grew from half-hour to half-hour by 21 percent in adults 18-49 (to a 1.7 rating from a 1.4), 17 percent in adults 25-54 (2.1 vs. 1.8) and 8 percent in total viewers (5.6 million vs. 5.2 million), while competing dramas on ABC and CBS were declining in each of those categories.  “SVU” built on its lead-in by 129 percent in 18-49 rating and 86 percent in total viewers.  Note that “Law & Order: SVU” originals have been adding 46 percent to these next-day “live plus same day” ratings when Nielsen issues “live plus seven day” results so far this season.

In Late-Night Metered Markets Wednesday night:
* In Nielsen’s 56 metered markets, household results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 2.9/7; CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” 2.6/7; and ABC’s combo of “Nightline,” 3.6/9; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 1.8/5. 

* In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” 0.9/4; “Late Show,” 0.7/3; “Nightline,” 1.1/5; and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” 0.7/4.

* At 12:35 a.m., “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (1.6/6 in metered-market households) beat CBS’s “Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson” (1.2/4).  In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, “Late Night” (0.6/4 in 18-49) topped “Late Late Show” (0.4/2).

* At 1:35 a.m., “Last Call with Carson Daly” averaged a 1.0/4 in metered-market households and a 0.5/4 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.
