NBC’s 2 hour ‘Law & Order: SVU’ pulled better at 10pm

At 8 p.m., “Mercy” averaged a 1.6/5 in adults 18-49 and 6.0 million viewers overall.  “Mercy” is #2 among the major networks in the hour in women 25-54.  From its first half-hour to its second, “Mercy” increased its adult 18-49 rating by 13 percent (to a 1.7 from a 1.5), its adult 18-34 rating by 22 percent (1.1 vs. 0.9) and its women 18-34 rating by 25 percent (1.5 vs. 1.2).


From 9-11 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.7/7 in adults 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) apprehended the show’s top 18-49 rating since November 6.  In a highly competitive time period, “SVU” ranked #2 among the major networks in adults 18-34 and women 18-34, behind only Fox’s “American Idol.”  From its first half-hour to its fourth, the special two-hour “SVU” increased its adult 18-49 rating by 36 percent (to a 3.0 from a 2.2) and its overall viewership by 31 percent or 2.2 million persons (to 9.1 million from 6.9 million).

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” is up 42 percent versus NBC’s 1.9 average in this slot for the traditional 2008-09 season (“live plus same day”).  In total viewers, “SVU” is up 28% or more than 1.8 million persons versus NBC’s 6.443 million average in the hour during the traditional ’08-09 season.

From 10-11 p.m., “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” pulled within a tenth of a rating point of “CSI: NY” for the time-period lead in adults 18-49 and moved ahead of “CSI: NY” to rank #1 among the major networks in adults 18-34.  “SVU” also tied for #1 in the 10-11 p.m. hour in men 18-49.
