NBC's holds position w/ ‘The Office’ and ’30 Rock’; ‘Leno’ so-so

Thursday Results, 01/21/10; not a great night for the peacock and Leno is just hanging in just so so as he waits to return to late night.


From 8-8:30 p.m. ET, “Community” (2.1/6 in 18-49, 4.7 million viewers overall) is currently #2 or tied for #2 among the major networks in the slot in adults 18-49, men 18-49, adults 18-34 and men 18-34.  Last night’s “Community” is up 24 percent versus NBC’s 18-49 average in the time period this season prior to the “Community” debut in the slot (2.3 vs. 1.7). 

From 8:30-9 p.m. ET, “Parks and Recreation” (2.0/5 in 18-49, 4.3 million viewers overall) is currently #2 or tied for #2 among the major networks in the half-hour in adults 18-34 and men 18-34.  “Parks and Recreation” is currently retaining 95 percent of its 18-49 lead-in from “Community” and has now retained 95 percent or more of its 18-49 lead-in with 13 of 14 original telecasts so far this season.

From 9-9:31 p.m. ET, “The Office” (3.7/9 in 18-49, 7.3 million viewers overall) is the #2 show of the night in adults 18-49 behind only ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” (pending updates).  “The Office” is #1 among the major networks in men 18-34 and men 18-49 in a highly competitive time period that includes ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy,” CBS’s “CSI” and Fox’s “Fringe.”  “The Office” out-rated “CSI” head-to-head from 9-9:30 by a 23% margin in adults 18-49 (3.7 vs. 3.0), making this the 10th consecutive “Office” original to out-rate “CSI” in 18-49.

From 9:31-10:01 p.m. ET, “30 Rock” (2.8/7 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall) is currently #1 in in the highly competitive time period among men 18-34, tied for #1 in men 18-49 and #2 among adults 18-34 and women 18-34. 
 
From 10:01-11 p.m. ET, “The Jay Leno Show” averaged of a 1.4/4 in adults 18-49, a 1.6/4 in adults 25-54 and 4.5 million viewers overall.  Last night’s competition in the time slot included CBS’s “The Mentalist” and ABC’s “Private Practice.”  Week-to-week, “Jay Leno” is up 8% in 18-49 (1.4 vs. 1.3).

Comparisons with Jay Leno’s 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” are: in adults 18-49, 1.4 vs. 1.4; in adults 25-54, 1.6 vs. 1.8; and in total viewers, 4.5 million vs. 5.1 million.  Comparisons with NBC’s Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports averages over the 52 weeks prior to the “Jay Leno” debut are: in adults 18-49, 1.4 vs. 2.2; in adults 25-54, 1.6 vs. 2.7; and in total viewers, 4.5 million vs. 6.9 million.

In Late-Night Local People Meters Thursday night:
Conan O’Brien (2.6/11 in 18-49 in local people meters) out-rated CBS’s LATE SHOW (0.9/4) in Nielsen’s 25 local markets with People Meters.

At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (1.0/6 in 18-49 in local people meters) tied CBS’s LATE LATE SHOW (0.5/3).
