NBC's new Are You There, Chelsea? has good showing

At 8 p.m. ET, “Whitney” (2.0/6 in adults 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) debuted in its new regular slot with NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the time period since October 19 and biggest overall audience since November 30.  Note that Thursday first-run telecasts of “Whitney” have been adding 34 percent to their next-day “live plus same day” ratings when Nielsen issues “live plus seven day” results.  In the time period, “Whitney” is #2 or tied for #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in all key demographics.


“Whitney’s” 2.0 rating is its highest 18-49 result since November 10 in the show’s prior regular time period, Thursdays after “The Office.”  The 5.8 million in total viewers is “Whitney’s” high since its series debut on Thursday, Sept. 22 averaged 6.8 million.

Versus NBC’s average in the time period last season, “Whitney” is up 58 percent in 18-49 rating (with a 2.0 vs. a 1.3, “live plus same day” non-sports) and up 21 percent in total viewers (5.789 million vs. 4.804 million).  Versus NBC’s results in the half-hour on the same night last year, “Whitney” is up 33 percent in 18-49 (2.0 vs. 1.5) and 15 percent in total viewers (5.789 million vs. 5.022 million).
 
At 8:30 ET, “Are You There, Chelsea?” (2.3/6 in adults 18-49, 6.2 million viewers overall) premiered with NBC’s highest 18-49 rating in the time period since September 14 and biggest overall viewership since November 30.  Counting only in-season Wednesdays, the 2.3 is NBC’s highest rating in the slot since January 5, 2011.  “Are You There, Chelsea?” built on its lead-in by 15 percent in 18-49 rating and 7 percent in total viewers.  In the time period, “Chelsea” is #2 in adults 18-49 and #2 or tied for #2 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in most other key demographics.

Versus NBC’s average in the time period last season, “Are You There, Chelsea?” is up 64 percent in 18-49 rating (with a 2.3 vs. a 1.4) and up 22 percent in total viewers (6.182 million vs. 5.072 million).  Versus NBC’s entertainment results in the half-hour on the same night last year (which were interrupted by news coverage), “Are You There, Chelsea?” is up 53 percent in 18-49 (2.3 vs. 1.5) and 18 percent in total viewers (6.182 million vs. 5.231 million).

At 9 p.m. ET, “Harry’s Law” averaged a 1.2/3 in adults 18-49, 8.7 million viewers overall) matched its season average for originals in adults 18-49 while improving on its “live plus same day” season average by 7 percent in total viewers (8.386 million vs. 7.839 million).  In total viewers, the 11 original telecasts of “Harry Law” so far this fall have delivered NBC’s 11 biggest audiences in the time period on an in-season Wednesday since February 9.  Last night, “Harry’s Law” built on its total-viewer lead-in by 36 percent.  Note that “Harry’s Law” first-runs have been adding 42 percent to these next-day “live plus same day” ratings when Nielsen issues “live plus seven day” results so far this season.

At 10 p.m. ET, “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” (2.0/5 in 18-49, 8.4 million viewers overall) captured its second highest total-viewer result of the season, behind only the 9.9 million reported on November 30.  “SVU” built on its lead-in by 67 percent in 18-49 rating.

Versus its most recent original telecast on December 7, “SVU” is up 5 percent in 18-49 rating (to a 2.0 from a 1.9) and up 19 percent in total viewers (8.395 million vs. 7.030 million).  Note that “Law & Order: SVU” originals have been adding 45 percent to these next-day “live plus same day” ratings when Nielsen issues “live plus seven day” results so far this season.

NBC is #2 for the night in 18-49 among ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and CW, with the network matching its highest Wednesday average of the season (1.8).
