NBC's 'SNF' Cowboys-Giants deliver highest ratings

The Cowboys-Giants game on NBC earned the highest overnight rating in the six-year history of Sunday Night Football on NBC, according to overnight data released today by The Nielsen Company.


Quick take: 17.1 is Best Overnight for ANY Sunday/Monday Primetime Game in 13 Years. Up 36% From Week 17 “Win-and-In” Game Last Year. SNF Is No. 1 Show of Night and Leads NBC to Sunday Night Win. Dallas Leads Metered Markets With 37.1/55 New York is 4th With 25.3/38

Last night’s game on NBC, in which the Giants defeated the Cowboys, 31-14, to win the NFC East, registered a 17.1 overnight rating and a 27 share, 36 percent higher than last year’s Week 17 game (Rams-Seahawks, 12.6/19), which was also a win-and-in game to determine the winner of the NFC West, and topped the previous high Sunday Night Football overnight by one percent (Cowboys-Jets, 16.9/27 in Week 1 this season).

NBC NO. 1 ON SUNDAY NIGHT: Last night’s Sunday Night Football broadcast won the highest-rated program of the night. NBC led the night among metered markets in primetime (7-11 p.m. ET) with a 12.9/21, topping the 7.5/12 for CBS, which was boosted by an NFL overrun. NBC also beat Fox (3.0/5) by 330 percent and ABC (2.5/4) by 416 percent.
