Noncom flips LPFM to make way for full power station

Perry County Educational Media holds a CP to build KWQX-FM in its hometown of Perryville AR. For that reason, it is divesting its LPFM, KQIX-LP, donating it to St. Francis Chapel.

Although it is against the law to sell an LPFM station license, we have occasionally seen transactions in which the license was handed over and the equipment for the station was sold.

That is not the case here – PCEM is donating everything St. Francis will need to run the station. It also has a sweetheart rental deal with St. Francis in place going forward. For $1.00 per year, St. Francis will have at its disposal a spot on PCEM’s tower and room in its transmitter building for KQIX’s antenna and equipment.

The community is in unrated territory about 30 miles northwest of Little Rock.

KQIX is low power, even for a low power, but boasts a much loftier antenna height than is common – it has 8 Watts on 96.5 MHz, at an HAAT of 340’.

KWQX-FM is to be a Class A on 91.9 MHz with 140 W @ 2046’.
