Ohlmann-GroupThe American Advertising Federation of Dayton, OH held its 7th annual Mercury Awards ceremony on 5/22. The Mercury Awards, which recognize excellence in ad sales and support, are voted on by members of AAF-Dayton.

The Ohlmann Group, which is currently celebrating its 65th year of operation in Dayton, won five of the evening’s awards: Best Ad Agency Rep, Best Media Buyer, Best Print/Specialty Buyer, Newcomer of the Year, Unsung Hero and Vendor of the Year.

“There’s no question that the advertising community is very competitive in this town, but it’s also very supportive,” said Jim Hausfeld, former President of AAF-Dayton and Creative Director at The Ohlmann Group, a local ad agency. “We all recognize good work from our peers when we see it.  It’s a special honor when our effort is recognized by other people who do what we do.”

The 2014 Best Media Buyer prize was awarded to Helen Mumaw, who recently celebrated her 30th year with The Ohlmann Group.

“I have been privileged to work alongside many talented people throughout my career,” said Mumaw. “This award is meant to recognize my efforts, but I could not have won without our fantastic clients and the constant support of my colleagues.”

Linda Kahn, Senior Vice President at The Ohlmann Group, was named Best Media Buyer Emeritus after previously winning the Best Media Buyer award six times.

“It has been so wonderful to work as a team with Helen; I spend more waking-hours with her than with my husband,” said Kahn. “As media continues to change, it is nice to face the road ahead with a trusted partner.”

Mumaw, Kahn and their team members each took time to thank Walter Ohlmann, the eponymous President of The Ohlmann Group, for his vision and guidance through decades of advertising history.
