Magnum Broadcasting reports the death of veteran newsman Peter Dean Lakin, known on air as Pete Holliday. He was 68.

Lakin had been a TV anchor in the Madison, WI market in the 1960s. Most recently he spent 12 years as News Director of Magnum’s three-station radio cluster in Portage-Wisconsin Dells, north of Madison. He was just months away from celebrating 50 years in broadcasting and had been on the air until last Friday, despite suffering from multiple medical maladies, including the removal of a lung several years ago.

“He took broadcasting very seriously. He felt the real responsibility to convey information in simple terms that people could understand very clearly, and he was very rigid. He would be the first to tell you he wasn’t the easiest guy to work with, but we’re so fond of him,” said company owner Dave Magnum.
